Walls
Insulation Is Not Enough
In exterior walls, uncontrolled air movement can drive energy loss, occupant comfort complaints, condensation risk and long-term durability concerns. SPF helps address these challenges by expanding to fill gaps, cracks, penetrations and transitions that are difficult to detail with conventional materials. When used in wall cavities or as part of exterior air barrier assemblies, SPF can contribute to a more continuous building enclosure strategy that supports thermal performance, air leakage control, moisture management and simplified code compliance.
For commercial wall applications, SPF can be used to improve performance across a range of assembly types, including stud wall cavities, exterior insulation strategies and rainscreen wall designs where air barrier continuity is critical. By adhering directly to common substrates and conforming around irregular surfaces, SPF helps reduce thermal bypass and air infiltration while supporting a tighter, more durable envelope. Closed-cell SPF insulations can also contribute to vapor control and water-resistive barrier performance within the commercial building envelope.
Multi-Attribute Solutions from BASF
ENERTITE® open-cell SPF provides an efficient and cost-effective solution for commercial wall cavities where air sealing, thermal insulation and sound control are the primary design priorities. Applied as a low-density, water-blown foam, ENERTITE® expands to fill framing cavities, gaps and hard-to-reach areas, helping reduce air leakage and improve occupant comfort. Its open-cell structure provides strong acoustic benefits, making it well suited for multifamily, mixed-use and commercial interiors where sound attenuation is important. ENERTITE® is best positioned for interior cavity applications and commercial wall assemblies where vapor control and exterior exposure requirements are addressed through the other components of the wall design.
WALLTITE® closed-cell SPF provides the highest level of multi-attribute performance for commercial wall assemblies where insulation, air barrier continuity, vapor control and durability are priorities. As a closed-cell spray foam, WALLTITE® delivers the highest R-value per inch, forms an air-impermeable insulating layer and can serve as part of evaluated air barrier and weather-resistant barrier assemblies for exterior wall applications. Its rigid, fully adhered structure helps add strength to wall systems, supports moisture control and can reduce the number of separate materials needed to achieve building enclosure performance. WALLTITE® is especially valuable for exterior air barrier assemblies, rainscreen designs, multifamily wall systems and projects requiring tested fire-resistance or NFPA 285-compliant assembly options.
Benefits of Insulating Walls With SPF:
- Adds durability and structural integrity throughout the wall system
- Airtight application improves energy efficiency and prevents moisture infiltration
- Improves occupant comfort and controls sound movement
- Reduces potential for allergens, dust and pests from entering the building
